Welcome back to the flower embroidery stitch along! This is Part 2 of the series, and I’m so glad you’re here. In this installment, we’re tackling three beautiful wildflowers: the dandelion, forget-me-not, and thistle.
If you missed Part 1, be sure to check it out — we covered the rose, daisy, cosmos, and lavender using the free flower template I shared. Each flower in this stitch along builds on the last, so you’ll keep adding to your skills as you go.
Whether you’re joining this embroidery stitch along for the first time or you’ve been stitching along with me from the start, this is the perfect way to unwind and create something genuinely beautiful.

Stitches You’ll Need for This Stitch Along
Almost every stitch used in this series is covered in my basic embroidery stitches post. Here’s what you’ll need for Part 2:
By the end of this stitch along, you’ll have completed a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a variety of stitches, and you’ll feel more confident in your embroidery skills. Let’s get started on this next phase of the journey and add even more lovely flowers to your embroidered collection!
Dandelion Stitch Along
Thread colors: dmc #3346, #3782, #898, and white
Stitches: Stem stitch, satin stitch, seed stitch, fly stitch
The dandelion is one of my favorite flowers to embroider — there’s something so satisfying about that fluffy pappus coming together!
Create the Stem
Using 6 strands of DMC #3346, work the stem stitch along the stem line:
Create a small stitch at the bottom and come up a gap away.
Return to that small stitch and nudge it slightly to the right with your needle before returning to the back.
Repeat these steps until the stem is complete.
Add the Center
With 6 strands of dmc #3782, fill the center of the dandelion using the satin stitch.
Use 6 strands of dmc #898 and add seed stitches around the center to create the seeds.
Add the Pappus (the fluffy white part)
Using 2 strands of white thread, work the long-tail fly stitch to create the wispy, feathery texture. Place these at the end of each seed stitch.
Come up at A, return to the back at B — keep this stitch loose.
Come up at C, pass over the loose stitch, and tighten to form a “V” shape.
Return to the back at D, placing it just above the small brown seeds.
Add a small seed stitch from E to C to anchor the pappus.
Thistle Stitch Along
Thread colors: dmc #3346 and #3835
Stitches: Stem stitch, satin stitch
The thistle is one of the more unique flowers in this embroidery stitch along — that fluffy, looped petal effect is really fun to make.
Create the Stem
Using 6 strands of DMC #3346, work the stem stitch just like the lavender in the first stitch along post:
Add a stitch at the bottom, then come up a stitch away.
Return to the middle of the stitch, nudge it over to the right and return to the back
When you reach the top, bring your needle back up through the middle of the flower receptacle and set it aside.
Create the Petals
Use 6 strands of dmc #3835.
Wrap thread loosely around 3 fingers (12 times) then cut the end. The beginning and end of the thread should fall on opposite sides of your fingers.
Carefully slide the thread off and center it at the base of the flower receptacle, just below the thread you left behind.
Stitch your loops down with your thread by returning to the back at below the loops (at the top of the stem).
Create the Receptacle
Using dmc #3346, fold the petals up out of the way and add a stitch over the bunched thread at the top of the receptacle.
Then cover the entire receptacle using the satin stitch, adjusting as needed for smooth coverage.
Cut the loops and trim the ends. Use your needle and fingertip to gently separate the strands and fluff the petals into their signature thistle shape.
Forget-Me-Not Stitch Along
Thread colors: dmc #518, white, #898, and #743
Stitches: Seed stitch, lazy daisy stitch, French knot
This little flower is delicate and sweet — and it comes together faster than you might expect!
Create the Petals
Fill each petal with the satin stitch using 6 strands of DMC #518.
Then, using 4 strands of white, add a lazy daisy stitch between each petal with the loop pointing toward the center of the flower.
Add the Center
Using 6 strands of DMC #898, add 2 small seed stitches side by side in the center, leaving a small gap between them and the petals for the next stitch.
In that gap, work lazy daisy stitches with 1 wrap using 4 strands of DMC #743 to create a soft, layered center.
Keep Stitching Along!
You’ve now completed three more flowers in this embroidery stitch along — the dandelion, forget-me-not, and thistle. Your bouquet is really coming to life!
Think of this stitch along as a starting point, not a rulebook. Feel free to swap thread colors, adjust stitches, and make each flower your own. That’s the best part of embroidery — it’s endlessly personal.
Whether you’re tackling all three flowers in one cozy session or spreading them out over the week, this stitch along is meant to be relaxing and enjoyable. There’s no rush. Take your time, trust the process, and let yourself sink into the stitching.
If you need a refresher on any of the techniques, visit my step-by-step stitch tutorials linked throughout the blog. And stay tuned for the next part of the stitch along — more flowers are on the way!
Happy stitching!
