I’ve been making this air fryer chicken breast recipe since the day I got my air fryer and I love this recipe because it’s quick and easy, but also because you can pair just about anything with it and have a delicious meal that’s both healthy and delicious!

More often than not, I use my air fryer to cook up my chicken recipes. It just makes the whole process so simple and my chicken always comes out perfectly juicy and delicious!

Since it’s smaller it gives off less heat than the conventional oven which I take advantage of during hot summer days.

Although I have central air I hate using it, and I’m very lucky that my home is surrounded by large trees that it’s almost always nice and cool inside. I try to keep it that way so the air fryer is perfect!

This air fryer chicken breast recipe can still be made in the conventional oven, by the way. Yay!

And, if you don’t already have an air fryer, I highly recommend getting one. It’s definitely my most used appliance in my kitchen and I don’t know how I ever lived without it!

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Breast

To make this delicious keto friendly, Whole 30, gluten free chicken breast you’ll want to make it about an hour or so ahead if you want to give it some time to soak up some of the flavor from the spices. It’s optional though, but recommended.

  • Start by putting together the spice mix. In a small bowl, add all of your spices, olive oil, and butter.
  • The butter should be room temperature so it’s soft but not liquid.
  • Once everything is nicely mixed together, set your chicken breast on a plate & rub spice onto one side, flip over and rub it onto the other side.
  • Here’s a tip that’ll keep your spices from rubbing off onto your plate when you flip it over: use a piece of parchment paper that’s just a bi smaller than your chicken.
  • Either flip it over onto the parchment paper or lay the parchment paper onto your chicken after you rub the spice onto one side, then flip them over together so your parchment paper ends up on the plate.

  • Next, lay plastic wrap on top of your chicken but don’t press it down. You don’t want to lose your spices.
  • Set chicken in the refrigerator for at least one hour, then when you’re ready to make it remove it from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 – 20 minutes.
  • In the meantime, preheat your air fryer at 370°F. If you don’t preheat you may need to add extra cooking time.
  • Then put your chicken in the air fryer for 10 minutes.
  • Flip it over and cook for another 7 – 10 minutes.
  • The amount of time is going to differ by a few minutes because how air fryers heat isn’t consistent with one another, but they should be close. The size of your chicken breast will be another factor.
  • To check doneness, your chicken should be at 165°F and flesh should no longer have any pink in it.
  • Before you cut into your chicken let it rest for about 5 minutes so the juices can be redistributed to leave you with a tender meal. If you cut it open too soon the juices will flow out.
  • Serve it up whole or sliced with other sides. Try it with my Instant Pot Cilantro Lime Rice with Black Beans with a side of tortillas!

You’re going to love this air fryer chicken breast! But, if you don’t have an air fryer it can be made in the oven. Preheat the oven at 400°F and bake for 20 – 25 minutes. You don’t need to flip it over.

I always make extra when I cook and that’s because I want leftovers for lunch the next day. I’m always hustling about so this helps me greatly by saving time so I can get other things done.

Air fryer chicken breast can be safely stored in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 3 days and frozen for up to 3 months.

Leftovers can easily be added to meal plans & meal prep. Chicken is so versatile when it comes to pairing with other foods so this should be easy. Perhaps add it to a tortilla with my Instant Pot cilantro lime rice with black beans and some guac. Yum!

Add it to salad, pasta, sandwich, roasted veggies, rice, or soup.

  5. Set chicken breast on tray and air fry for 10 minutes. 

  6. Flip over and air fry for another 7 - 10 minutes.

  7. Remove from the air fryer & rest for 5 minutes.

  8. Serve with bread, rice, or roasted veggies.
